Carbon Reduction Plan

Nation Care Agency Ltd is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050in line with the UK Government's Net Zero strategy and Procurement Policy Note (PPN 06/21). As a domiciliary care provider, the organisation's main sources of carbon emissions are care worker travel, staff commuting, office electricity use, and the procurement of goods and services.

The company's baseline emissions (2023–24)were 15.4 tCO₂e, reducing to 14.7 tCO₂e in 2024–25, representing a 4.5% reduction. This improvement was achieved through local recruitment, more efficient geographical rota planning, reduced unnecessary travel, and increased use of digital systems.

To achieve net zero, Nation Care Agency has set interim targets to reduce emissions to:

• 13.0 tCO₂e by 2027
• 10.0 tCO₂e by 2030
• 6.0 tCO₂e by 2035
• Net Zero by 2050

Key carbon reduction initiatives include:

• Recruiting locally and planning care visits geographically to minimise travel.
• Encouraging walking, cycling, public transport, and other sustainable travel where practical.
• Improving office energy efficiency through LED lighting, reduced energy consumption, and responsible heating and cooling.
• Reducing paper use through digital care planning, electronic rostering, and electronic staff records.
• Purchasing from environmentally responsible suppliers where possible and reducing packaging waste.
• Raising staff awareness through environmental training and sustainable working practices.

Future plans include expanding electronic medication records (eMAR), reviewing renewable electricity options, improving travel data collection, exploring low-emission vehicles for management travel, carrying out annual carbon audits, and incorporating environmental considerations into supplier reviews.

The Carbon Reduction Plan will be reviewed annually, with progress monitored against emissions targets and published on the company website to demonstrate continued commitment to environmental sustainability.
